10 Tips to Help Your Business Avoid The Post Holiday Decline
What a year, right? And if you're a business owner...WHAT A HECK OF A YEAR!!
Now that the biggest shopping holiday of the year is over, and you've ran the course of your marketing budget, most small business owners are left with the question:
What do I do to keep the momentum?
If you've come across this blog post after the fact, that's OK, we still have 10 Tips that will help you keep your business growing long after the Post Holiday Business Sales Decline.
Let's Get Started ( and as always, "WRITE IT OUT. then. WORK IT OUT." So grab your pen and a good notebook, or one of our workbooks, and lets build a system!)

- Offer a Post Holiday Promotion-Take advantage of the flood of people who received a gift card as a Christmas gift (because they're impossible to shop for, or want something you're not paying for outright so, here's a gift card toward it-gift! 😅) Creating a Post Holiday, pre New Year Sale works best for marketing around "fresh starts". Offer tools to start the new year off right or great ways to recover from the holidays!
- Create a system to retract on Discounts and Sales- If you've been running a major sale that focused on quantity sales versus overall profit, then now is the time to create a system that directs those sales traffics back to the regular priced item. The best way to do this is to ask for reviews and take advantage of the ones you have. People are more apt to buy based off of reviews even over a sale.
- Start an ENGAGEMENT plan- Ok, not the "I Do" type of engagement planning, but more of the "Hey I'm a real person" type of engagement (and if you quoted the Pinocchio-I'm a REAL BOY!, then you're our kind of people for sure😂🤥). Talk to your followers, email your clients and consumers, share stories through blogs, watch stories, engage, engage, engage!
- Build engaging content-...ok, ok...WE DO! Sheeesh!! Ok, but right now is THE best time to dive into creating the best content. Take a peep at your analytics throughout your marketing networks and pick the top 10-20 most engaged content, then build new content around those post.
- Show up Online, ALL OVER- Now that things have slowed down, this is a great time to introduce or reintroduce yourself to the market. Get a little personal behind your brand. Share your favorite things, ask your viewers what they want to see, be silly, let your hair down and allow people in. You are a business owner, OWN THAT S@#4!
- Create a Retargeting Strategy- Go through your customers and reach out to them, check up on the product, and then use that engagement to retarget your marketing campaigns around them. No sales, that's ok, follow back on the digital marketing and other forms of marketing that had high traffic and engagement. Rebuild around that campaign.
- Strengthen Your Company's Staff Skills-The beginning of the year is a great time to give your teams customer service skills a fresh boost. Discuss what worked, what didn't, and what you could have done better. WRITE THIS DOWN, you'll want to refer back to this at the end of the summer to prepare for next year's holiday season.
-
Embrace Creative Marketing- Did you know that there is a National Holiday almost every-single-day? Yep, we've made an excuse to celebrate every day as a nation, and your business should make a big deal about it too. Take advantage of the "National Donut Day" by creating a marketing campaign around it, or sale...think " Donut Go Without THIS-sale".
- Teach Your Team How to Target Impulse Buyers- It's me, I'm Impulse Buyers!😫 Take advantage of using social media, creating a great web design and offering that free shipping. If you need to make up for the cost of free shipping, this is a great time to boost your prices up a bit in exchange for that cost. Another way is to offer new products with increased prices but free shipping.
- Create Freebies or Inexpensive Gifts With Purchase- Having a digital freebie to generate email list are not the only way to build your traffic. Offering an exclusive download with the purchase of an item makes your products much more attractive. Be sure it's something useful to your audience.
So there you have it, 10 ways to stay afloat with your business after the holidays. Keep in mind that following the holidays, most consumers are looking for relief, not more ways to waste their money. Health, Budgeting, Starting a Business, and learning how to win at Marketing are amongst the top things that consumers are after come the first of the year.
